We updated the exterior colours of this Wahroonga house, going from mid-century cream to a contemporary grey palette. Although grey colour schemes are currently very popular, selecting the right shade can be tricky as they often appear cold. So we selected a warm creamy ‘greige’ for the main colour pairing it with a deep charcoal and crisp white. The brickwork used the lighter tone, with the darker charcoal for the feature trims – the shutters and garage doors. The white and grey tones result in a balanced palette, a warmer take on many grey schemes.
The client’s favourite colour is red, so it was important to find the perfect shade of red to use on the front door. A red front door is a great Feng Shui colour, providing a warm and welcoming first impression of your home. The red is a lively accent colour to use with the grey and white, also providing an exterior focal point. The interior furnishings consist of more than one red sofa, so carrying that colour through adds consistency of colour.
The interior colour palette ties into the exterior colour scheme by using the same palette and tones of grey. The feature walls in the rumpus/games room and the hexagonal tiles in the bathrooms are in the same warm charcoal that was used on the exterior trims. Using a neutral palette containing contemporary colours on the exterior updates the look of this older house without having to undertake a major exterior renovation.
