Performing an exterior colour makeover on this commercial building in Hornsby took it from drab to fab. The new extension and rendered façade gave us lots of surface area to work with. The brief from the client was to make it stand out amongst the surrounding buildings. Although some of the buildings had been updated to use grey and white schemes, most of them were industrial and uninspiring. Using so much colour on such a large building was both rewarding and fun.
The businesses housed in the building all relate to the outdoors, but they’re not in a bush setting. Rather than using standard muted bushland tones, we opted for the jewel tones of turquoise and deep navy. Adding a contemporary grey to the colour palette tempers the other brighter tones.
Considering it started out as a 70’s blonde brick it has undergone a complete colour transformation. It certainly stands out now and is now a bright spot amongst the otherwise nondescript surroundings. Travelling on the train heading north as you leave Waitara station, look out a left hand window and you may just spot it!
