Perhaps your home is in a heritage overlay area or even has an explicit heritage order applied. These homes will almost certainly require approval from Council when changing exterior colours. We can assist you with the submissions process and, where possible, liaise with heritage officers on proposed colour schemes.
Many homes can be dated to a particular era, but don’t have strict restrictions from Council. You may want to embrace the period, and use accurate colours for the era. Or perhaps you want to update the palette, using a contemporary scheme for a modern extension. Whatever look you want, we would love to help you find a beautiful colour scheme for your heritage or period home.

Council Submissions
Working with homes or buildings with heritage orders requires a bit of back and forth obtaining Council approvals. Consequently, it can take a few more steps than selecting a standard colour palette. There may also be a fee for lodging a submission, which you need to include in your budget.
If your house has a heritage order on it, firstly make sure you have all the details from the Council about the restrictions that apply. This could be a specific list of colours that must be used, or rules that aren’t so clear.
Once we’re clear about the rules that apply, we can work on selecting a new colour palette. Under strict criteria this means selecting from a traditional heritage colour palette, but we have had past success using a mix of heritage and other colours.
We can help you prepare the submission to Council, providing colour specification and placement documentation as required. Period homes with no restrictions have more flexibility. We still like to consider the period and architectural features when defining a new colour palette and placement and placement.
