Staring at a wall of paint chips to try and find the right colour scheme can be disheartening. How are there so many shades of white? Or why does this grey look lavender when I paint it on my exterior? Our Colour Consulting service can make sense of all that, helping you select either (or both) interior and exterior colours.
A colour consultation takes the guesswork out of selecting your colour scheme. We start with the aspect, lighting and architectural style of the building exterior or interior space. It’s also important to consider the look and feel you want to achieve.
We then go through a process and determine which colour palette best suits the space balanced with the look you desire. Exterior schemes usually consist of a main colour and then one or two trim colours, although period homes may call for additional trim colours. Interior schemes may include paint colours, flooring or carpet, and joinery colours.
Interiors
When designing an interior colour scheme we start with the layout and style of the space or home. Open plan modern rooms need something different to individual rooms. You may want to modernise the look and feel or highlight particular architectural or period features. If you are selling, a simple neutral scheme will have a wider appeal, but if it’s your forever home it can reflect the personalities of those who live there.
We start with the overall look and feel you want to achieve, then consider the above points (and more) to find the right colour scheme for you. Another key element is your furniture and artwork – what is staying, what is being replaced? Then deciding where you want the colour – on the walls, in the furnishings, or both.

Exteriors
The exterior of your home is the first impression any visitors have, so a new colour scheme is a chance to create a great one. As with an interior scheme, we start with the look you want to achieve. But an exterior scheme should also consider the style of the house, as well as the surrounding houses (the streetscape).
Grey and white schemes are very popular right now, but they may not suit all types of house. It can also be tricky to pick just the right shade of grey.
Whichever scheme you choose, a statement front door always makes a great impression. We love finding the right front door colour to fit in with your exterior scheme.
