Both the interior and exterior of this Federation style house in Dural were in dire need of a colour makeover. Neither had been done in over 20 years; the motivation for the revamp was the owners wanting to downsize and sell the property.
Exterior
It was important to increase the curb appeal, so we chose a contemporary grey palette for the update. As the existing cream windows and garage doors needed to stay, we incorporated that colour into the new palette. Providing a rendered drawing of the colour placement for the exterior helped the clients visualise the end look.
This part of Dural contains a mix of rendered and brick houses. This project shows a great example of updating a colour scheme without having to paint the brick. Re-painting the original terracotta roof tiles was a big part of this makeover, using a mid-toned grey. Compare the before and after shot below to see how the new roof colour updates the look of the house and ‘lifts’ the whole exterior.
Interior
The original interior colour scheme was 1990’s pinky-salmon, so updating to a modern grey and white scheme gave the interior a total facelift. Grey is a tricky colour to get right, it can make an interior very cold. Lucky there is lots of natural light in this house, especially in the kitchen and conservatory area, so it worked well.
Replacing the old pinky salmon carpet with a modern charcoal colour grounds the formal living areas and bedrooms. It also carries the deep charcoal used on the exterior in the interior scheme, tying them both together. The kitchen and family areas retained the original tiles, and as they contained elements of grey, they worked well with the updated palette.
The owners were very happy with the result, and even happier when the house sold almost immediately. The interior and exterior colour makeover made a big difference when selling this Dural house.
